With and Without You

by Britt Zimmerman

Is it ending already
Seems like Venus just placed us
in her grasp
and gave us fire for passion
and moonbeam lips

You were desert
I was sky
and come morning
we were trees
with wind embracing
our leafy hair

We were words
embraces
cliche's
as we strolled through town
like children of the flowers

You were a giggle
and I became the smile
that put your sound into the air

Like tiny little feet on balance beams
and taking shapes like clouds
on a spring day

but you ceased to breathe
suffocated in your freedom
to fly away on wings I could not see

No more blue skies
and jetfuel trails

And I am choking here
beneath the black haze of smoke
that you left behind

struggling to see the angel trails
that the sun finds through the rain
like gods great fingers reaching down
to touch the earth and make it beautiful again

I am broken mirrors without you
fragments
dust storms that find their way
to unshielded eyes
and the tears that fall
to cleanse them

Rich construction, expression...imagery throughout Britt. A new favorite of mine. Kudos!
