it was one of those kinds of conversations.

by Andrew S Adams

from the outset of a simple 'hi'
you know this is heading down a road
that you would rather not travel
you can see straight where it goes.
bend and bottleneck
and dreams of forever lost in slow
motion with the ring of inevitable
doom waiting to occur.

you know that at this point
there is no turning back.
what has come has gone
it was for the love- but that's what it lacked.

it was one of those kinds of conversations
set by a tone of things prepackaged
rehearsed.
waiting to be said.

it's like a premeditated murder
with no death penalty.
not like i'd want her to die-
just me.

it was one of those kinds of conversations
and now it's one of those kinds of nights.
