Brenda

by Amanda Conlogue

I haven't seen you since I visited
you on the three month anniversary
of her death, before that, the funeral
I wonder what you look like now
almost five years later
after too many drinks
even before you were too thin
skinny with sorrow for your daughter
are you now a sack of bones ready
to follow her path through ocean currents?
If I were to see you now
I would tell you, "I know.
To this day, she still haunts me."

Great imagery... exceptionally good last line. It leaves the reader with a haunting echo.
