A rush, a collision and a loss of control

by Andrew S Adams

it starts slowly.
a tingle, and then
nothing.
wait-

crashing like 2 freight trains
a rush hits the blood.
never mind the head pains
this is going to get good.
i look up. down. cant stop
moving- the heart is beating
400 miles an hour.
trying to keep up with me
i cant get enough
this high will never end.

I thought it never would-
then it did.

waking up at 2:30 AM
to find something horribly wrong.
head split in two
the rush is gone.
i cant breathe
I've been crushed
and the room wont stop spinning...

i need to feed this-
the drugs ARE NOT winning.
they cant-
i'm stronger than that.
they cant beat me-
I abuse THEM!
not the other way around.

like a deer in the headlights
a statistic in the headlines
I'm caught in the sights
of my own self destructive mind

i feel the tracks below me rumble
the oncoming trains are so close
i feel my world crumble
in the grips of this overdose.

Author's Note: not to pass doubt upon those of you responsible for making this POTD (i thank you for the honor)... but i've since grown from this darkened kind of style. if you've not read my more recent poems, i implore you to do that before passing judgement on my style (translation: i don't like this poem, i've written many that are better) . thank you for the honor though!

As always, gold. But this one has deeper meaning for me. Touching on a seriously disturbed level. Nice job.

hmmm can't recall this particular high... must be something I never tried (meth?) What are you young whipper snappers into these days? heheh Seriously though, I like how you use the drug high mania to also question its use, its relationship to your will, and the harsh reality of come-down as a reality jolt to 'is it worth it?' shows control.
