Late Afternoon

by Amanda Conlogue

The water is pale gray
A rippling reflection of the sky
Raining, but it’s not cold
The breeze is calm, comforting
A caress against my cheek
My hair flutters, mink
Ribbons streaming, I watch
The bustle of busy cars drive
Past, headlights dim illuminations
In this half light of late afternoon
Soon, I’ll be coming home to you
And a smile curves my lips.
