Southern Sun by Scott Cadence
I'm no where near
where I want to be
with you
but that's okay
It isn't that bad
when I'm driving my car
Looking over
into other people lives
I can pretend
I'm happy
One arm
off the coast
gripping the wheel
The world
is flying past -
My blood beats
with Spectacular Direction,
Your words
I once understood
now
casually set
in the rays
of a Southern Sun
and thats okay too
Because I'm learning
not to pause
as if what I thought was real
could come back
turn around
55 miles
through scenic debris
And
when I let myself
come together
I know I only have
the best parts of you -
and they let me forget
that there is a limit
and things to need
Its funny
how time becomes unrelated
my heart
rounds off
and only has
Upbeats
Falling exactly as intended
where you should
be

Posted by Beth K Hannah on 01/18/03 at 06:57 PM I read this one 3 times and each time I loved it more. It is great, the imagery and the thoughts in it are just great. |
Posted by Bruce W Niedt on 02/09/03 at 06:25 AM Ah, the joys of Random Poetry! If not for that feature, I would never have "stumbled" upon your library. It's hard to pick a favorite among the ones I've read so far, but this one stands out. Sparse yet lyrical, laced with brilliant imagery and language. ("My blood beats/ with Spectacular Direction..." - wow!) Looks like you have a few fans who are also pretty good poets. Add me to the list.... d:-) |
Posted by Lori Johnson on 02/28/03 at 12:27 PM I gotta tell ya, the title caught my eye, but the poem yanked my heartstrings & pulled out some really touching memories. The imagery is just as it should be...beautifully poetic. Great job with this one. :) |
Posted by JD Clay on 02/28/03 at 01:29 PM This beautiful verse has an energy all its own. Great pace, nice rhythm and a sentimental tone all make for a wonderful Poem Of The Day. Congratulations Scott.
Peace...

Posted by H.M Stevens on 09/20/05 at 08:08 AM This is tremendously beautiful and something with which I can relate... Although it seems as if this poem can be intrepted many ways. I especially enjoyed the forth stanza |
