THE INVITATION*

by Melissa Arel

He opened the door to His holy place

Inviting us to partake of His feast

We stopped in our tracks, looked around and said

"“Are you sure you are talking to me?"”

He smiled a smile that lit the skies

All of Heaven glowed like gold

And with a laugh of wonder He said to us

“"When I made you I sure broke the mold!"”

He has beckoned us to sit at His table

To eat and fellowship with His Son

“"But we are rags of unworthiness, Lord"”

He invited us as we are, so we'’ll come

As we are seated by His side, listening

To His words of Salvation, partaking of His light

We find everything we’ve been searching for:

Love, Hope, Purpose and Life

The food arrived, the music began

We had a Holy Ghost party in that place

Everyone started dancing around and around

Happiness was everywhere, on everybody’s face

We reached for the crumbs that had fallen from His table

Crawling to where His feet have trod

He stopped us, seated us again and said

“"Don’t you know you are guests of the Living God?"”

He spoke of His Love, His saving grace, His mercy

And the story of His dear begotten Son

He told us that He did all of these things

For all of us - each and every one

We knew He is like no other –

We marveled at His forever-forgiving love

We asked if we could be part of His family

And he answered us, in the form of a dove

We promised to come back whenever we could

So we left His House with an open invitation

We knew our lives would never be the same

After this dinner with the God Of All Creation!

Beautiful images. This poem radiates the love of the Father. I really like that Steven Curtis Chapman song "Great Expectations". Hmmm....I feel peaceful.
