Caitlin: what the heart will say

by Andrew S Adams

dont let your mind say
what you should not want
the only thing that should tell you that
is your heart
and i was caught in a moment
flash of fall and collapse
afterwards, i couldnt stop thinking
you wouldnt stop shaking
and everything was falling down
in my arms,
held you up to all i could hold
said everything i could say
without a word being told
whatever it is
it will be allright
the world is much better than this
than it was tonight
things will be okay
just give it a couple of days
and we will just laugh it all away
forget tonight, except for the words we say
i love yous caught in crossfire
the moment lost in a blur
our emotions on a wire
for what happened to her
and i cant think anymore
without starting to cry
i know it will get better
but i'm asking why
this disaster
had to happen at all.

Author's Note: this is just an excerpt from a convo i had with caitlin tonight. it is actually a much longer poem, but most of it is too personally charged for me to post here. yes, i do keep my emotions in check once in a while.
