darkened white

by Andrew S Adams

a few flakes fall to the ground
nothing i cant take
but soon a world of white surrounds
i'm covered in snowflakes
and what started as harmless
is now a fullblown storm
inside i hide from the brutailty
inside, i keep me warm
and the world in white
blows harder now
and it's not worth the fight
i should just give up now
and let the snow
envelop me.

ten minutes later
the flakes are only bigger
the blanket only softer
and the reality only more cold
stare through the white wall
white floors
marred with the footprints
of those who would not see
the serene beauty
the gaps and the cracks
between the flakes
and on the sidewalk
are coming closer together
and the lines are slowly blurred
surrounded in a darkened
white world.

cocaine crumbles on my windowsill
the sun baking everything in sight
the storm is over and i got through
and the world just dusted in white
a few wayward tears
from the greyed out sky
linger on in this toxic
but it's all stopped, otherwise.
it's all over now.

Author's Note: the first stanza was written while looking out my window, and some snow was just starting to fall. i read some of akio's library, looked out my window again (when the snowfall had picked up), and wrote the second stanza. the final stanza i wrote about ten minutes later again, and now the storm is over.
