A Simple Goodbye

by John Harder

Once upon a time
I was happy
When we were near

Complexity hunts for me
in the dark of night
and light of day
Just as east and west
will never meet

Do not be troubled
oh my heart
Time will tell
and years will heal
the scars of long ago

They linger like a cough
when the flu has left
I waited
and still wait
Is there room for two
in the rest of your life?

I'll hold my breath
and wait for you
I'll turn pale
and then a dark blue
like the colour of my favourite shirt
before it faded from the wash
I miss that shirt

i love this, this is great. i really like a lot of your poetry, especially the ones where you abandon the rhyming. maybe just because i'm biased against rhyme. :o) anyway, excellent job here, i especially loved the last line. :o)

this is really good. sounds like something I would write if I didn't suck.

I love this poem because it aches which is the sound love makes when it sets.
