Are you strong enough?

by Amy Niggel

If I were to look you
straight in the eyes,
could you hold my gaze?
make me be the one to turn away?
If I held your hand
in mine
could you keep from tears?
If I kissed you
would you return it?
If I told you,
about my life
would you stay?
Told you everything,
the pains,
the nightmeres,
the fears,
everything that came before you,
that shaped me into who I am now
that made me hardened
and bitter
and afraid to love.
Could you handle it?
This knowledge
that so few have,
that has scared so many,
made them think so differently
of me.
Could you know this
and still think of me?
Think of me as you do now,
not as some fragile creature,
or some poor lost child,
but as you do now,
as just another person,
something insignificant,
something worth something.
just don't think of me differently.
Are you strong enough?
Can you do this?
even if the answer is NO
just answer me this,
given the opportunity
would you try?
and let me know
Are you strong enough?

Author's Note: This is an old one it was written a while ago (at least two years). I just kinda liked it, it seems to fit and to explain things I can't explain. If all else fails think of the Sheryl Crow song cause that is kinda what got me going on it, then what made me remember that I had written it at all was that Travis Tritt wrote a song in response to hers and all I could think is wow I wish that there would be a response like that to mine. (Both sets of lyrics are in my journal) *HEH Bruce H. Voge took me up on this idea you can find his response Someone loved Sheryl Crow!!! (DRAFT) in his library!!
