Teaching My Wife to Listen, revised

by Carl Walker

Oh, I have a problem of the most distressing kind

the woman that I’m wed with drives me off my mind

she needs to learn to listen and and she hasn’t learned it yet

her lack of listening to me makes me mope and fret

I knelt in fervent prayer as I took my problem to the Lord

I explained in great detail and not once did He look boared

I sighed for her transgressions I grieved for her mistakes

I felt surely He would help me with these emotional aches

when I pleaded for His help, at first His answer makes me glad

'cause usually He takes her side, and that's frustrating and makes me sad

"I will give you power and My power will be ample"

"what I want you to do", said He, "is teach her by example"

that wasn’t what I expected to hear

it was the realization of my worst fear

"I will give you power and My power will be ample"

"what I want you to do", said He, "is teach her by example"

as i was reading the poem, i was telling myself, this is new, usually it's us the males who are accused of not listening. lol. and then the cool ending. =)

Aptly expressed Carl; rhyming scheme works well here also to deliver the message. Reminders of my first and only marriage. Towards the end neither of us we're willing to listen to the other.

A bit of tongue in cheek! Great last line! LOL! Makes me think how often we project our own lacks onto those closest to us, or those we work with.
