Like A Cat

by Oscar Martínez

Like a cat
extending my body beneath
a contemporary sky
fed up with haste and empty of myself

Like a cat
I conceive lustrous sayings
that I never express
imagining the bedroom ceiling
like a printed tapestry
with human figures
replete with lips that will not
have to move

Like a cat
I find within laughter
insipid advise
and afternoons foaming with hands
that offer misery
in exchange for caresses
rigid with hypocrisy
like the ones which I offer

Like a cat
that edges the firmament
seeing it on its side
I will take your silence
and hurl myself into the vacuum

Like a cat
I will scratch at that denim
jump over the delft
climb that chair
return to the edge!

Like a cat
I will demolish your pride
urinate on your lap
and you will smile at me slowly

Like a cat
lofty!
your saints celebrate me
I know of your effort
your occult desires and I continue laughing
I know how you see me
you look at me with lust and think:
what would it be like to copulate with a cat?
I turn away with disgust and distance myself from you
you will not see me crack a smile!

Like a cat
like a god!
permitting
allowing spirits to arrive in blossoms
to whom I lend my voice
my singular voice!
and I rule only to make them speak
and to shut them up when the night
hangs itself from the earrings
of nocturnal flux
anticipating beautiful stars
the which I scare off in order
to chase!
birds with gigantic eyes
know not how to understand my magic
and my happiness in chasing the stars

Like a cat
I will approach from your side
alone
very slowly,
you will be left believing
that I will make love to you
woman on top of my body
I will dissipate your heartaches
while I cuddle with you,
while I feel like it!
I will not tell you that I love you
but I will make you believe it,
with you I redesign my sky

BRAVO!!! Oh thank you BOTH so much! I am so excited, and this was WONDERFUL! You have definitely captured the cat.. "urinate in your lap..", "... I will cuddle with you when I feel like it..." I couldn't restrain the giggle that escaped. I can barely wait to read more translations.

Amazing how you take every nuance of an extended simile and run with it, even the almost-taboo thoughts that come with such musings. Lots of sensuality and insight here. Wonderful! And thank you David for an expert (I'm sure) translation.... d:-)

The closely watched being-- shivers and stretches under your eye, temperature rising it leaps over the fence of night into flowers still awake and turn to words. And the lips of your "bedroom ceiling"-- speak.
