Where Do I Stand? by Cathlyn CartierWhere do I stand?
Your words say one thing, your eyes confirm it,
But your actions betray them both.
They betray me.
My heart,
Which I tried to shelter,
I kept tucked away for so long.
But gradually,
Day by day,
Week by week,
Month by month
You chipped away the barrier.
You destroyed the protective façade, and
You captured my heart.
For what purpose?
With what intent?
To nurture it?
To teach it to build trust?
To repair the scars of the past?
Or to return it, a tattered, torn, bloodied mess,
Clinging to the last vestiges of life?
Where do you stand
With my dying heart lying still in your hands?

Posted by Christina Bruno on 11/25/02 at 09:46 PM I really felt this way last night, and I just couldn't put it into words. If as if you have done it for me, it is very beautiful. mwas |

Posted by Lori Johnson on 12/02/02 at 06:52 PM Ah, the angst of a broken heart. Very dark & descriptive. The last two lines really grip me. A visual of it no longer beating says it all.
Bravo, Cathlyn. Well done.
