papery shrapnel

by Andrew S Adams

step outside
cold, gray
you beg for it to assault
your presence begs it.
blast of wind attacks
the howl deafens you
take cover from
this cutting atmosphere.
watch as the leaves fly
around your head,
drop like propellors
waiting to cut through your every move.
november in minnesota.
