Tug-Of-War

by Anne Engelen

Tossed about and tossed aside

Tossed away got all my pride

Lost in an emotional jungle with no place to hide

from the demons of another sleepless night

Like a hideous vicious poison

Slowly it crept up on me

This mental tug-of-war

between my soul and the rest of me

Anne, I like this a lot!....emotions always seem to play tricks on me too...MUAHS!

The first two lines hooked me, the rest wrapped me in memories of similar choking nights... tossing and turning in the mire of some (usually imagined) rejection. Again I honor you, my friend, for the gift of your honesty and soul.

I agree, I really like the first two lines. Excellent poem!

I have to agree with those who commented on the power of the first two lines...hooked thusly, I went along for the ride, Anne...and then the last two lines hit close to home and I was more than hooked...I was caught.
