internal differences

by Betania Tesch

in the evenings
we become surgeons
extracting pieces
of information
from each other's
chest cavities
until every rib
is missing
and the skin
and muscle collapses
to outline a sputtering
grey heart
in my chest
and a pink specimen
of glory
wearing ribbons
and holding trophies
in yours
