Lost Boy

by Melissa Arel

What is that I see in your eyes so deep and fair?
Whats the missing element
Thats claimed your soul for its own? -
Thats grasped on so tight
That its nails has drawn blood
From your very existence

What holes do I see in your armored heart? -
That wants to be loved beyond love
And held beyond an embrace

Wheres that smell of childhood in your hair? -
Of climbing birches and swimming lakes
Of catching frogs and jumping in muddy puddles
Of long days in the sun and sweet evenings
Catching fireflies amid the night air

Wheres that little boy you once were?

Look deep into the mirror -
Look so hard til each feature
Blends together as one image

Stare long into those watery eyes
And see what I see
See the child you once were
And the man you are now

I pray the Lord may restore to you
The absence of your youth
So that you would see all that you are
And all that you're meant to be...

All is not lost.
