once upon a starry stormy night

by Andrew S Adams

The sky illuminates so violently
and then slowly subdues
a shot of electricity
seguays to marvelous hues
black as the night that consumes it
the sky is washed over with rain
so subtly moonlit
you might call this a backdrop for pain
but i see this differently
i see a glimmer of hope
veiled behind a cloudy canopy
the stars shine beyond my scope
but the knowledge of this wonder
this universe so great
this galaxy i sleep under
has me trapped in thought
these thoughts do not frighten
these thoughts do not depress
the beauty there that is there within
is my envy, i must confess
once more the lightning strikes
but nature not disturbed
the rolling thunder of the skies
is not there, but somehow heard
as the clouds part
to show the beauty beyond
their warmth fills my heart
they are there, right where they belong.
