Portland

by Corey Drover

I have to leave
Go somewhere mythical
Where nothing bad happens

I've attended the wake of many a bottle
Now it's time for a change
Nobody hears anything bad about Portland
Maybe it's Shangri-La on earth
Maybe I should go there

I don't hold courage in my hand
Nothing good for me here
Reminders of all that's wrong

I never heard you say sorry
I doubt I ever will
I never made it as a caring man
It's time for something new

Maybe Kansas is in the cards
After all we're not there anymore
Depart the pain by escaping this land
See who I really am

I couldn't cut it
The tendency to long for an exit
grows stronger with each event

It's not like you didn't know I loved you
Never gonna change my story
Just want to go
Probably go home
Loathing myself the whole way down

You can run but you can't hide. Good reminder of how some foolishly believe that by moving, they leave their troubles behind, and maybe some troubles can be left behind, while others always catch up.
