I become an advocate of the morning devotional by Lacy D Phillipsthe fire's gone
you remark with some irony
and wasn't that the sun
grey-washing the sky
before the clouds rolled in?
if I knew the east I'd tell you,
but for now we sit in silence
searching for minor details
in the blue light
turned softer somehow
by your sense of the dramatic
and you and your langour
and me and my apathy
should have known better,
should have made a fine example
of what is not worthy
for our devotion
but since the moon has sank
and the sun not yet risen
we are lost to each other
for lack of a beacon
and all that's left
to represent gravity
is our faith 06/27/2002 Posted on 06/27/2002 Copyright © 2025 Lacy D Phillips
