drifting

by Betania Tesch

I drift now
away from the tiny
snag in the fabric
of the world
we carved for ourselves
out of a hotel room,
your car,
and our happiness.
I drift out
into the vast possibility
but vast limitation
of living in this
smoothly polished hole
on my side of the universe
without your chaotic charm
grinding on my existence.
I drift and I hope
that you will realise
I cannot stay with you
because smooth holes
and calm nights call me.
Still hope is
not a very good strategy
so
I'll return
and allow you to
tear me apart in that
beautiful way
if you'll wait for me
and make us a stain
on the world
to live within.

I like the first five lines the most. The images of living within a stain, a snag, a smoothe hole, are quite creative. They give me the image of being a peace with a certain routine to some degree, but also realizing transience... Quite lovely, Bethany.
