Just another day (without you) by Paul LittleJust another day (without you)
It was just another day (without you)
I was standing alone on the balcony,
The scene of so many good times for us
And the locale of many an argument too,
Watching as the wind blew leaves from trees
As they gently swayed back and forth
In perfect rhythm with a silent orchestra
Moving with such a sense grace
Like the way we danced together
When you still loved me
As a gentle rain began to fall
Splashing gently on the window,
Like the tears of the young starlet
Crying into her looking glass,
I was reminded of you
And how much you loved the rain,
That day we got caught out in it
And I gave you my jacket,
Said I didnt mind getting wet
Not if you could stay dry.
Do you remember that day?
How my sodden clothes clung to me like ivy
Growing on the cottage we passed
As we made our way to shelter
Dreaming up stories about the residents,
Who they were and what they did.
You were always so good at that game,
Creating a perfect life for other people,
Living out their hopes and dreams.
Yet you never did for us.
I stand here and wonder why that is
Could you just not do it?
Were you trying not to tempt fate,
In case she made it happen?
You said you loved to take risks
But you never did with me
Not in the way that mattered.
I let out a sigh as I backed away from the window
Facing this for what it is
Just another day (without you)

Posted by Rommel Cruz on 04/26/03 at 01:13 PM it's so free flowing that even if it's long, it's not boring. i like the way you presented the piece, not sappy, melodramatic, heavy... really great poem! |
