Co-exsistence by Lori Johnson
Morning comes,
They pass in the kitchen.
A kiss goodbye
More out of routine
Than genuine affection.
Then, out the door-
Another start to another day.
As evening approaches,
They enter in to the usual.
Exchange a word, perhaps two,
Between bottles and diapers,
Dinner and TV.
He washes the dishes,
Bathes the baby,
Prepares for bed.
She folds the laundry,
puts the baby to bed,
And prepares for tomorrow.
He thinks to himself
She should be thankful
For all he is and does.
She thinks to herself
She would be satisfied
With a kiss, a hug...a touch.
Bedtime arrives,
They start their rituals,
Unaware of the other.
He reads for a while
Then turns off the light
She does the same.
They roll over
Back to back
And sleep
Until...
Morning comes,
They pass in the kitchen.
A kiss goodbye
And another day gone.
This is a repost from "back in the day". It is one of the first ever posted in my library. One of the few that were saved from the CRASH!!! I was only beginning to "expose" myself back then. Interesting to see how far I've come.03/29/2002 Posted on 03/29/2002 Copyright © 2025 Lori Johnson

Posted by Bethany Lee on 02/23/07 at 03:00 PM I see my Self in this so clearly...You get into a groove, mondaythrufriday ninetofive...baby bubble baths; laundry spinning, turn out the lights and start all over again the next day. Very well laid out. It had a tinge of sadness to it, but I enjoyed the Truth that spoke. |
Posted by Susan Q Tomas on 03/14/07 at 03:03 AM The blandness of it is so depressing. Excellent poem. I hope good change came. |
