cannon fodder

by Ulyss Rubey

today no ray
of sun has shown-
black branches lay
against grey sky-
dank drizzle soaks us
to the bone-
the choice is ours
to do or die.

the choice is ours
to do or die-
into this hell
called war we go-
black branches lay
against grey sky-
a lovers eyes
we'll never know.

a lovers eyes
we'll never know-
insanity will
take our lives-
into this hell
called war we go-
the choice is ours
to do or die.

black branches lay
against grey sky-

today no ray
of sun has shown. . . . . . . .

Poignant, hauntingly expressed impact of war, masterful writing execution.

Brilliant use of repetition to deliver the message, Ulyss. Nicely captures the darkness of war.
