It'll Last Longer

by Meredith C Hartwell

You turned your back,
and I took it as a sign of trust
but stole my chance and
snapped a shot of your
strong-shouldered stance.
And the lines of your spine
I have loved so much
now run smooth and glossy
beneath my touch
And I-
And I-
And I remember too many curves
of bone and skin
and muscles toned
that a photo could never contain.
And if a picture was worth
a thousand words,
this one
would only sigh.

Vividly touching, and goes right to the heart, where it matters most. I'm moved.
