Damn Aladdin

by Ken Harnisch

I’m not asking much
Someone to have coffee with
On an apple crisp October morning in the sun
Someone to smile at
Someone to flirt with, with my eyes
Someone to lace fingers with
And form a steeple on the tabletop
Someone to talk with,
Someone to listen to, for hours, knowing she is glad
That I’m the one who’s there
Someone who thinks sports or work are out of bounds
At least for now
Someone who wants me to read a sonnet
Someone who wants to teach me free verse
Or ask me how to write it
Someone to hug
So loud and long
Till we’re both trembling from the same embrace
Someone who likes falling leaves
Someone who likes capturing the same
And wants to use my camera to that end
Someone witty; sharp; acerbic;
Someone real
Someone who groans to hear my jokes
While you know that she enjoys them just the same
Someone here.
Someone I can touch and hold
Someone I can kiss
Someone I didn’t invent this morning
In a story or a poem.
Damn Aladdin anyway
Where is that lamp?
Not every dreamer always wants his weight in gold

Awwww ...who doesn't want all this. Totally captured by the words which set me off daydreaming and then suddenly shook awake by teh last few lines..leaving me with a smile and thinking darn yeah where is that lamp?

I think we all want what you listed. Aladdin came as a bit of "shocker" to me though. (Nevermind it was the title of the poem.)It's like as what Anne said, woken me up.
