Tears In A Bottle

by Melissa Arel

I cried a tear tonight
it rolled down my cheek
bittersweet
and fell into a puddle of collected sorrows
cupped in my palm, for you
salty, saline tears I stored in a bottle
that you might see them, crystal clear and blue
perhaps I shall send it to you
by tossing it in the sea
hoping that you capture it
as it rides the waves to your feet
and you'd pick it up, and dust off all the sand
open it, and seeing each tear that fell
you'd know how truly sorry I am
the silent message in a bottle
no words spoken by lips
but poured out from an empty soul
and mourning you, every drip by drip.
