Toppled

by Audrey M Scott

The earthquake thrown my way
shook my inner centre, quaking
it to foetal position unseen, invisibly
cracked my bones and collapsed
my foundations. This great wound
weeps upon the earth of my feet,
off-balancing my stability and whizzing
my sanity into a whirlpool nightmare.

Bring me from this hell place where
its ferocious winds hiss at me with
vipers breath.
Place a calming hand to the
vipers venom; cork its stream.

I’m drowning in striped illuminated
faces of poison, snapping, snarling,
gnashing until their jaws are toothless
holes in warping images.
Their teeth, fangs piercing oozing
wounds through me.

Tumbling in this landslide of
unfounded
condemnatory muck,
hurt bleeds its anger;
I want to equally snarl and spit back.
I want to
crack its skull open,
but why should
I sink and become its mirror.
