burn

by Melissa Arel

i never believed in love
i was duly afraid of it lest it should singe
and turn me to charcoal
black, heavy and covered in soot
with the smell of burning flesh,
a burning heart
who opened itself and took a chance
a risk of what this love might entail
but if you will love me all,
there will be bonfires of the sort
but we will bear it it openly
beautifully, graciously
and for our own sake,
plunge headlong into its flames

hmmm, the flames don't seem to harm me, interesting.

Great poem Mel. Sometimes you have to jump in the fire to cool love off a bit.....Charlie (again I like the graphic)

Sometimes the scorching of our fingertips on such a fire is not a bad thing at all....this is a beautiful toast to the flame!
