Paper Tigers

by Melissa Arel

little thoughts, words, phrases that come to my mind throughout the day

and i scramble to write them down praying i don't forget a single one

words of love and wishing intermingle

with words of disappointment and mistaken hope

written out in pen, with its occasional ink blots

as they come to life, jump out from the pages and play before me

in a fantasy of rhyme and reason

paper tigers sneakily hunt the prey, a writer's imagination
