poetry has had its way with me by Lacy D PhillipsTeach me to love for my art
for I've taken words far enough
in the service of unlived scenario
and the lies of unfelt emotion.
Lay me down and coax my talent
over horizons and inlets of inspiration
I've yet merely described.
Thrill my pulse to quicken
in the pursuit of driving ironies
now fallow and prostrate within.
Make me vulgar.
Teach my tongue a primal language
of which words know nothing,
and demonstrate per definition
that which is elementary to our identities
as women and men fulfilled.
Whet my voracity for poetic stimulus,
then kneed my intuition to the forefront of my motivation
and thrust upon my being a revised creative outlet--
predatory, sanctifide, and stripped of formality--
the culmination of experience, appreciation and instinct.
Teach me to love for my art
for I've taken words far enough
in the service of unlived scenario
and the lies of unfelt emotion.
