You Gave Me Insomnia by Melissa Arel
As my head hit the pillow
You came to my mind
As my subconscious revealed
All that festered inside;
And I tried to forget you
By turning my head
But your image came back
To my memory instead.
I sighed with annoyance
As I stared at the ceiling
Wishing I could just erase
All of these feelings.
So, I sat up in my bed
And looked out the window
Hearing your whisper
The way you did 'neath the willows.
But now that you're gone
I bid you farewell;
You took all your suitcases
And the lies that you'd tell.
So now I can close the shades
On that lowly weeping tree
And take back that missing piece
Of my sanity.
