There Is A Treason At Sea...

by Melissa Arel

You've tried to breech this fortress
and climb the walls of my abiding castle
as waves crash against the pillar of stone
that I have used as my high tower
secured in my armed sanction,
no arrow or sword could penetrate

Ships have sailed that ocean
which has proven to be more deadly
than the bearer of good news
and so, I have turned off the light from afar
guiding vessels to my harbor
now left to the sea's wrath
which has carved an eye
for sinking ships and floating dead

You see me as a desolate maiden
locked away unseen to the beauties
which you have to offer me
with your white horse and knightly armor
shining like silver, polished to impress
I'm not Rapunzel
but I ask you now
do you have what it takes to save me from myself?
Don't try to swoon me with words that fall to the threshing floor
and slip through the cracks..
words do not sustain a bleeding heart

Have you the courage to take up and fight
when time and tide have washed away the foundations
and the deed to my soul is rent?
When I finally open the doors
and walk away from my bondage,
what will you say when you see the wild flash in my eyes?

Ignorance is fitting for a fool
nor do I have pity for such.
Strength does not lie in my hands
it lies in the very crevices of my mind
which none has shattered or looked quite far enough to see.
I am not submissive to the sway of ideals
but prefer the simplistic truths

I am not one for swirling romances -
casual interaction to soften the blow of loneliness
No.. patience has formed a barrier to the cold chill
so, take your horse and trek your way home
and pick up your ego on the way out.
I'll stay in my watchtower to see the voyeurs battle to breathe
as the Northern wind blows the Seamen away.

Hey, this is amazing. You have an intense inward strength. I pray that you would continue to stand. And never settle for anything less than what His Spirit has for you.
