Lingua Felina

by Glenn Currier

Lingua Felina
Most of its consonants
are silent
or softer
and more loving
than the uttered
pretensions
of Romance
language.

Learning the tongue
of the cat
is not consciously done
or easily won.
It happens
only in relaxing
the grip
and releasing
control -
not naturally
human.

Its tongue is taught
only in the student's
silent humble moments,
therefore rarely
learned.

Feline lessons
are gained
in quiet osmosis
and warming
of laps
in murmuring purrs
and touch of paws.

Only those humans
blessed with
special
intelligence and
unlearnable
aptitudes
ever capture
the essence
of lingua felina.

Nice tone and imagery. I'm going to reread and come back to it. It'll take me a minute to digest.
