Moon Lightning Follows Our Wedding Sun by Glenn CurrierConceived in clouds, romance, and belief achieved in stones, choices, and grief it lives in cells of blue and red and aloe Vera hues and soily bed .
Blooms in the ocean of luscious lips in the valleylove and curve of your hips, laughs in wind and spray of sea and chiffon of come and leave.
Heralds its wood in gray and gloom and dust of sorry and forgiveness broom - its green in poems and raisins' brown and opening songs and aria's gown - its light in conquering shadows' age and might and should and storming rage.
Sorrow in "I won" and in flight of fear too much bluster popcorn and beer too long a check and working hours too short a linger in embrace's flower.
Joy in the children of our years in movie prayers and church's tears in Renier and Hood and heights of saint Helen bay of St. Thomas and red meat of melon.
Three decades and two from its delirious foments from first of ten million precious moments of peering into those big brown eyes of accepting and loving a trillion tries we've lived a marriage of homemade bread of spoken hopes and mean unsaid of arrows and angels and wrong and right of sparrows and buzzards and eagles' flight.
Here we are two hearts and minds - another season these vines entwine moon lightning follows our wedding sun into the kiss of a loveday begun.
To Helen for putting up with me to the beginning of year thirty-three

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 04/06/04 at 09:46 PM probably the most beautiful anniversarial (is that a word?) poem and tribute, rich with honesty and all the hues of the years together, I've ever read. God Bless you & Helen. I will print it and re-read it over and over, as a fellow long-married poet. (we're coming into our 29th) |
