A Mirror of Children by Bruce W Niedt When I see children battered by fists or words, by the sharp sword of war, or the sharper sword of hunger,
when I see children, picking through the rubble of the day after, looking for parents, or anything else of value,
when I see children, neglected and left to the world and its violence on all fronts, even the media,
when I see children numbed to the brutality of life and the cheapening of death, there is one thing they all have in common: the light thats gone out behind their eyes.
We cannot let this happen to a light that reflects our future.

Posted by Melanie A Bennett on 08/18/03 at 02:02 AM Wow... this is such a powerful piece. I love it. I am a social worker and I see children living through situations that they should never have to endure... it is really said. Nice work on the poem. Thank you for writing this. ~Mel~ |
