Just to Hear You Smile

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

The longest of days
got longer still,
with every passing moment.
Rainbows never seemed so faded,
and the sunshine....
never so distant.
The roses in the garden
drooped when I walked by,
and I heard the mighty oak
release a heavy sigh.

It's when sadness tends to encircle me,
that I want to pick up the phone and dial,
because that's when I know
that what I need...
is just to hear you smile!

Creatively done, hearing the trees and the smile, makes the walk an auditory and evocative journey.
