In No Mans Land

by Audrey M Scott

In the glory of me I am zilch,
In the light I am nothing,
In the shadows I am not.

Yet I heard the magpies sing.
Their loud song at my window
waking me
from deep slumber.

I had to see them.

There were two then three…
all joining in chorus for a
mornings bread crumbs.
Two had brought their babies to visit.

They have gone again,
they used to visit everyday.
Why have they left so quickly,

I am zilch and empty
I am ready to fade.
The darkness is.
