The Rose

by Audrey M Scott

A bowl of scented roses adorn
table of jarrah shining bright,
in where they are reflected
from window light.

One, two, three petals
drop as flower is spent,
its life short as though
only lent.

From its creation
a beauty to behold,
with fragrance ascending
until flower is faded and old.

What would the world be like
without this beautiful
rose ….
with beauty to the eye
and also to the nose.

A flower resplendent
in its own "crown",
bringing joy and happiness
to hearts celebrating or cast down.

This rose, standing in its own right,
has such power and wonder
in giving delight.

Thank you God for its creation,
even though its thorns can draw blood.
If handled correctly, it is a thing of love,
symbolizing affection to hearts
hungry or hurt.
I'll never stop loving this flower
in its pretty skirt.

Looking now at this bowl of
roses simple,
I smile with thankfulness
as my heart swells with pleasure,
for the existence and majesty
of this worldly treasure,
.......our rose.
