Bring Me Back (Religious content) by Audrey M Scott
Alone and broken, he kneels in the street,
tears flowing, no shoes on his feet.
As I look upon him, I hear him cry
"Lord please, take me back, don't bid me goodbye,
I open my heart Lord, and let you in,
forgive me my shortcomings, forgive my sin.
Give me strength and help me along,
O Lord please, to you I want to belong.
So far I've wandered astray,
bring me back from night to day.
Where I am it's dark, it's hell,
I know this path, I know it well.
Bring me back to pastures of peace and green,
to your bosom on which I can lean.
For you, I hunger and thirst,
bring me back to where I found you first.
In you I grew and did aspire,
but here I die, I expire.
Bring me back to your light so bright,
from this deep dark night
to that level ground,
to the cross where you are found.
I crucify you over again,
O Lord, I'm sorry to give you this pain.
Even though of you I took my leave,
you know I still believe.
Let me climb to heights much higher
and prove the devil to be a liar.
Let me account to you my sum,
Lord reign in my heart as my "Sun"."
The man crosses himself, whispers "please",
then raises himself from bended knees,
turning away he saunters along the street,
knowing this night the Lord did wash his feet.
