From A Father to a Son

by John D Uzzell

FROM A FATHER TO A SON

There he is, my boy.
What can I say?
Waited so long to hear those words...
"You're a daddy today".

Looking at his eyes
Thinking, they look like mine.
Wondering what will come along
For your new son and the changing of time.

Time has only changed for you; it has just begun for him
It can only bring what he needs to know
Time is something you need to have
To sit down and talk and show him where to go

Bringing him toys, caring for him
Knowing what he needs
Speaking to him about what he might need
Planting all the seeds

For him to grow, to be a good man
And to take care of his own
Remembering all that you taught him
Knowing it's just on loan

To pass to his son one day
As something one to one
Holding the memory of that single gift
From a father to a son
