Time And Again

by Charles E Minshall

___________________________

Long waiting I've done
Time and again,
Waiting and waiting
Since I don't know when.

Checking my wrist watch
Has worn many a sleeve
And it's always far past
Our time to leave.

I've trod the stairs
And paced the floor,
Then sat on the couch
To wait some more.

I've read papers and books
plus magazine pages,
Fed various birds
Perched in their cages.

I've toured the yard
And waited again,
Even gone to the car
And waited within.

I've revved the engine
And put it in gear,
Backed out of the drive
In hopes she might hear.

My revving the engine
Is costly in gas,
But it keeps me busy
To help time pass.

Once I twiddled my thumbs
Then tooted the horn,
I was sorry for that,
What furious scorn.

She burst through the door
In a lightning fast hurry,
Arms and mouth waving
With world class fury.

Interlaced frequently
With, "Don't you evers"
And just for good measure
A few "I nevers."

She's cute when she's mad
And I have to admit,
She's worth the long wait,
Every hour of it.

LOL! Oh how I know. When I was growing up, my father was the one with arms and mouth waving. I learned from the early wrath of the wait-on-able one in my life NEVER EVER do that again. Good one, my friend!
