New Year's Heartbreak (to all of my nameless crushes)

by Melanie A Bennett

Christmas time has come and gone
But brought along my fear
I realized I'd be alone again
To welcome in the New Year

I see all of those couples
Gathered at Times Square
I sit and cry and make-believe
That next year, it'll be you and me there

When the ball is dropping
I need someone to hold
But my arms are remaining empty
And my heart is feeling cold

I'm feeling kind of cold and numb
From my head down to my toes
It's a really painful feeling
That no one really knows

Another year has come and gone
And we're still not together
Although I wish and pray every day
It seems I'll be alone forever

Next year, I won't put myself
Through this self-inflicting pain
My life isn't worth much at all
Nothing for me to lose and nothing for me to gain

So, if you're in the arms of another next year
I'll pick up a gun or knife
Maybe we weren't together yet
But we will be in our next life

Quite musical, and quite the scary ending. Not worth killing over though. Congrats on being POTD!

I hope this isn't for real!!!! Call the counseling hotline if you really feel this way! Those last lines are scary! (Two suicides near here, one yesterday, one a few weeks ago. Big article on today's frontpage in our newspaper.)
