A Natural Place by Audrey M ScottWinters swollen tidal river-waters
spill into the narrow side cut; filling old
shallow clay pits, now ponds;
raising and flushing the usual lower level;
engulfing muddy edges.
The air bursts with dampness.
Enclosed canopy of dark olive-green sheoaks,
their dark trunks beginning to moss,
create a dell-like place of black-browns, dark
olive greens, and silver.
Sunlight intensifies greenness of grass, leaping
its lettuce colour from the richness of
natures canvas.
The only apparent movement, the eddy from
river to under a weathered wooden planked
footbridge, its planks damp, green and slippery,
lack of wind keeping them wet.
Slow flowing water, merges with linked
pools reflecting upside down trees, logs, and
reed fronds hanging like loose horse mane.
A domed room, its collective fullness, dazzling;
this natural framed picture like a maidens
natural beauty, breathing its own
refined splendour.
