Call to Arms

by Adrian Calhoun

Wake up,
they are coming.
They do not stand at your door,
some are not even visible to the eye,
but they are very near.
Closer than most would believe,
in places one might not expect,
with many joining them everyday.

Those that would do you harm,
and try to take away your rights.
All because of the colours of fabric,
sewn tightly together,
to form a flag.

It's not really the flag,
which they hate enough to wage war.
War with weapons, words,
and silence, the greatest weapon of all.
For the silent enemy,
gathers the most prey.

What a flag represents,
you and I,
a lifestyle, a life of freedom,
that is what they hate.
A hate that eats at them,
from the inside out,
driving them to the point of madness.

Wake up,
they are already here, today.
It is time to make a stand.
NOW, is the time to fight!

Author's Note: ~~* authors note and personal feelings: I reposted this now that Pathetic is back up and running. I felt an eerie chill run through me after the events of 9/11/01 knowing I had written this just over a year prior to that date. I had no idea that anything the magnitude of 9/11/01 would happen, but now I wish this could of served to be more of an eye-opener or really been a "Call to Arms" *~~

Well stated sir. My granddad always said never start a fight but you sure as hell better finish one if someone starts one with you..

I think fear and insecurity is the real culprit to seek in shadows the enemy which you can only imagine harboring there and shoot at will therein the enemy you assumed was harboring there, even though there be innocents in shadows who had only ducked in there, as respit from the relentless sun. Yes, fear and suspicion is what stockpiled all the weapons we hold dear and which cannot protect us in the end but destroy us internally. It is how all great powers die, from within.

Brilliant in its prophetic insight. Perhaps this latest bombing in London will awaken those who still think we should not be actively fighting Terrorism around the globe!
