I Wonder

by Roger J Kenyon

If my ancestors in a family picture
From long ago knew I'd be looking in
At those peering out at the future
Unknown with lively resolute eyes.

I wonder if my gene pool sharers
Those in Victorian clothes stark
Posed now in front of a camera
Thought about us to follow.

I wonder how those previous felt
Looking in at those before
Both now gazing through me
At time frozen in an image of wonder.

What a fascinating perspective. I often wonder how our civilization has changed since the invention of camera. Our society can now make time stand still by capturing the moment on film. We can also reinforce our memory by revisiting our past through photographs. Your wonderfully scripted Poem Of The Day has certainly given us all something else to ponder through your poetic lens. Congratulations, Roger. SMILE!!!

The camera doesn't lie, does it? I love your use of pictures, both old and new, predicting, wondering, looking. The second stanza is very strong. I can see them in my 'mind's eye' staring back viewing the future viewee's. Congratulations on your POTD.
