meet me half way

by Matthew Sharp

you're as mean as a butterfly
flapping its chilling blades

im so lucky to have you landing on me

im happy enough to walk in traffic

i can accomplish anything
with one less limb

a mannerism becoming an appendage

a placebo to drag me back
to start again.
eyeing myself never removed too far
the thoughtless shadow i mock you with
your flashlight in the sun
can burn
meet me half way

This has a surprise, right from the start. A stunning description of and directly spoken to-a "butterfly"! "mean as a butterfly flapping its chilling blades"... quite the original sentiment! Excellent. Love the directness, the single lines the self-view, the "flashlight in the sun", and the last line echoing the title. a favorite.

Loved "a mannerism becoming an appendage". I'm glad I got to read this POTD! Thanks.
