If You're Boycotting Arizona, You Can't Read This. Get out!!
08/04/2010 01:28 p.m.
If but for incessant deadlines, I'm certain I could've made a go of it as a print journalist ( For you Millennials, a 'print journalist' is just a quaint and fuddy old anachronism for 'blogger'). There's no question I love the art of - or at least the kinetics - writing. The offering of soulful or intellectual passions for others to consume or reject -- it's that -- that ACT for which I toil. Building, compiling towards something atop indelible blues, concludes deep in universal truths, and fickle physical rewards.

Sorry. Not sure where that's going. I kinda look at it as a warm up stretch before hitting the gym floor. I have neglected my writing -- rephrase -- neglected myself for far too long. Its a shame. This community has been therapeutic and cathartic for 5+ yrs for me now. So thanks. To all of y'all.

I promised a dear friend yesterday I would write her a poem by the end of, uh...yesterday. sigh.(gdmf!) . Why is it our family and such think we can just pop off something sublime and in time? And - ohh shit...y'think she expects it all to rhyme? No way, Jose! Incidentally, I do live in Phoenix, so I'm gonna have to ask Jose for some ID..hold a minute...

Oh, we're all cool here. Jose produced a legit Arizona ID ( lives in Scottsdale. Spells it "J-O-S-E-I-G-H"). SB1070 has been a fuckin blast though really. I've been making citizen's arrests/profiles for nearly a week now. I hear Arpaio's giving out ten dollar In-N-Out vouchers for every tenth "undoc" I can find.

[ Sidebar: I seem to recall the Italian slur "Wop" stood for "With Out Papers" as they spilled through Ellis Island. Hmmm]

Sorry for the awful blog entry. Idk what I got out of it, and I hope no one actually is still reading this. God man, go find a hobby. Geez.

And to you, lovely Joanna....still working on the poem thing. Itsa comin. Perhaps in closing, I will quote myself from some previous writer's slump:

Lifting a Pen to the Sky, I Said...Nothing...(part II.)
01/23/2007 07:20 p.m.

Dreck...drivel...tripe

again

Rehashed metaphors, lack of linear thought, and asymmetrical incohesiveness plague my writing currently.

I tried, I had some material from recent dreams even and it...just fogged out on me.

Alas, oh how I want to make love with the pen! Instead I just fornicated on the page, crinkled, and tossed it in the corner.

Not a very interesting journal entry, just venting my non-creativity into the ethereal collective consciousness.

Tomorrow is a new day; hopefully lacking in cliche. grrrrrrr......

Friends and Countrymen,

Either I seethe endlessly or I channel it into satirical humor....

Obama Appoints Chicken Czar

Little Rock, AK - President Barack Obama today named Blythe Rutherford Tyson III to head the poultry division at the Department of Agriculture. Stressing a need for aggressive new regulation of range free, spa raised chickens, he cited Mr. Tyson's thirty years running his family poultry business and as chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's fowl division as reasons for the selection. The post of Chicken Czar will join the ninety-two other Obama appointed Czars and be managed by the Office of Czar Administration (aka, the "Czar Czar"). Republicans have chaffed at the idea of adding even more Czars, but their amendment to HR3105 recommending combining the Chicken Czar, the Salad Czar, freshly ground parmesan cheese, croutons, arugala and endive into one powerful "Chicken Caesar Czar" failed a floor vote earlier this week.

Have A Lucky Day
03/01/2007 08:15 p.m.
I'm just dumping this here so I can work it into something later. I was just listening to "Have A Lucky Day" by Morphine.

Lucky Day

Where I was is unimportant
Where I am is awfully bland
Where I am going is even odds

Lady Luck my cunning mistress
God my surreptitious shylock
Kiss of the dice my soothsayer
Can’t loose forever;
Doomed to try

"Conquistador"
02/22/2007 07:20 p.m.
Here are the lyrics to "Conquistador" by Big Head Todd & the Monsters which I mention in my newest poem, "Tribute to Todd Park Mohr". For anyone who cares to hear a great band, they have many free downloads at www.bigheadtodd.com .

Conquistador - Big Head Todd & the Monsters

Shakin’ ‘em down and drunk on a holiday. Dishin’ them ‘lectric blues in an old school way. Lucy and Glenda Jones and an old beef bone. Drinkin’ that whisky juice till they all alone. They was blues conquistadors, soul conquistadors.
Old Betty Mae was movin’ it and doin’ it right. Muddy and John Lee rockin’ in the house of blue light. Trouble and worry come back on another day. Nellie’s aunt Bee got down and began to pray. They was blues conquistadors, soul conquistadors.
You got to mess around to feel right. Then you slow it down sometimes, just enough to get me home. You got me digging in a coal mine – diggin’ in a blues mine. Jesus gonna help me get there with them blues conquistadors, soul conquistadors.
Been twenty odd years since they burned that Checkerboard lounge. Listen that Howlin’ Wolf make a nasty sound. Muddy and John Lee you know they passed away. But the Gin room boogie still make you shake a leg.

Spinach
02/21/2007 04:39 a.m.
Spinach: the condition when laying prone and vertigo overcomes you. syn. 'spinage'. HIccup!

I saw an amazing Big Head Todd & The Monsters concert in Tempe, AZ lastnight. Even though I've seen them dozens of times, I'm in awe of Todd Park Mohr's unique blues guitar style. In my exuberance, I got a little past tipsy, however. I woke up to find that I had texted the above line to a friend before passing out. I have no recollection of it at all. Furthermore, my friend Sheila claims I broke her finger twirling her around. Either I was too drunk or she was too clutzy; I doubt I'll ever know.

If anyone wants to hear this amazing band, go to www.bigheadtodd.com . They have tons of free mp3 downloads from their live shows. The Red Rocks 2006 download is really good.

Doubt I'll post this permanently in my library. Even for me, it bends the traditional form too much.

The Terrorist Wears Prada
01/23/2007 07:40 p.m.
I'm starting to agree with the criticisms of the new season of "24".

Not only may it cause copycat bus bombings, last night I dreamt that I had a radioactive fist and a magnetic body. I was walking around a law office I used to work in, paperclips flying at me, compasses spinning. Though it'd be interesting to see what how this ability affects bra underwires, I found it a bit unsettling nonetheless.

I can forgive the over-acting by teeth bleach models, implausible action sequences, and gruff terrorists dressed in Prada. But keep your dirty bombs out of my dreams!

Jack Bauer must be stopped.
