my new t-shirt designs
08/24/2007 11:34 p.m.
This is the newsletter I recently sent out for the t-shirt business I run with my husband, Huge Wonder. We have a workshop at home where we do the silk screening & heat press.

What's new at Huge Wonder: adult sizes, Zodiac signs, Keep Austin Metal, and $14.99 summer sale end.

In addition to our usual size options of infant 3 months to kids size 6, our t-shirts are now also available in four unisex adult sizes: SM, M, L, XL. So far, the Zodiac, Signs, and Symbols categories are available, but if you'd like any of our parody shirts in an adult size, please email us (info@hugewonder.com) and we'll add the option to that design so you can order.

We have some great new Zodiac symbol designs! Each features a silk screened Zodiac symbol in white ink, centered on black cotton.

Our other newest design is "Keep Austin Metal" with the heavy metal horns hand symbol. It's a spoof on the ubiquitous "Keep Austin Weird" shirts with the longhorns symbol that are all over our hometown of Austin, TX.

All summer long, we've marked down our t-shirts to $14.99. These are the last few weeks that we'll be keeping the price so low, so if you've been thinking about getting one of our designs, now is the time. Especially if you have baby showers coming up this fall.

Thanks for reading, and happy shopping to all! Hope you're all enjoying the last few days of summer - or months, if you're down South. ;)

I've been working really hard lately with my husband (since Spring, actually) on launching this new business of ours. We design cool shirts and onesies for babies and kids. The central designs are parodies of rock bands, movies, tv shows, and modern artists. My writing background came in really handy for the initial brainstorming :) Well if you have any kids in your life, take a look at the site.

Back on Track Care Packs for Katrina kids
09/07/2005 05:23 a.m.
I have just joined this group, and am about to make some of these care packs after visiting Costco tomorrow, and donating them to our local Austin refugee shelter. Here is the info if someone wants a more personal way to help:

Hurricane Katrina refugees are without and in need of our help.
Perhaps, you have already donated money or in the case of a few I know have
offered your home as a safe haven or as another I know are heading to
disaster areas to assist personally. However, most of us are unable to
physically help out these victims directly.

Inspired by the friends I mentioned, I spent the better part of a day
trying to come up with a plan to make a positive impact on the lives of
the many who have lost everything. This tragedy has coincided with the
start of the school year across most of the country, and therefor with
back to school sales. Since the victims must be able to carry any
belongings they have with them at all times. The idea of stuffing a backpack
with necessities became my core concept.

As a mother of four children, ranging from toddler to teen, I am
particularly aware of the needs of families. I am asking everyone who joins
this Site to purchase a backpack or to donate a gently used one. In
addition, since my #1 concern is for the children displaced by this storm,
who are in strange places without any comfort items, I am requesting
you to fill these care packs with a child in mind, from any newborn to
teen, and pregnant mothers as well.

But for the random chances of birth and life, any of our families or us
could have been among those uprooted by this natural disaster. Forward
this to everyone and let each of us truly touch a child's life.

What kind of freaky mother are you?

Earth Mama
You're an earth mother! Your friends sometimes
call you Gaea, because you're the original
earth goddess! You and your kids both have
dirt under your fingernails, and you spend as
much of your time as possible out of doors.
Your kids have an incredible appreciation for
nature.

it's going to be a.... GIRL!!
06/22/2004 06:15 p.m.
Had the ultrasound today. My god, what a crazy technology... I'm glad I'm only having one of these done, the little girl in there was doing somersaults the whole time (I guess she always is, but it felt a little invasive). I could see her pretty little mouth swallowing amniotic fluid, the bones in her kicky little legs, her perfect spine and heart. Wow. Unbelievable. Now that all her parts are there, all I need to do in the next 20 weeks (she's halfway done!) is grow her bigger. All the baby chubbiness now needs to grow in around that little frame, and then she'll be born in early November. Wow. a little girl :) :)

Lilypie Baby Days

It updates daily. (thanks, Kara!) Seems like a very cute visual way to know at a glance where I am in the pregnancy. (As if I'm not constantly checking against the calendar.)
For a very graphic update on where I am in the pregnancy, I also check http://www.w-cpc.org/fetal2.html.

Those images are from actual in utero endoscope photographs done for a Life Magazine in the 60's. Still it's hard to picture that inside me when I'm not really showing yet. I can feel the little tiny thumps though.... and it's quite magical.
